A private blood test in BC is priced per test on LifeLabs' online store, or per panel at at-home services such as Numia Health, and the table below compares current prices. The bigger difference between routes is what each price includes.

"Private" means you're choosing the test yourself rather than going through the public route, which is publicly funded when clinically indicated. Every route still needs a practitioner's signature. What changes is who signs, where you're drawn, how many markers you get and who helps you read the results.

How do the routes compare on price?

What does each price include?

On LifeLabs' store, an MD Connected provider signs the requisition from your screening answers, and you still visit a LifeLabs site for the draw. Results come through MyCareCompass, which needs your Personal Health Number (PHN). Reading them is largely up to you: the testosterone test's page links to a downloadable Patient Guidebook.

Panels spread the order and the draw across several markers. Testosterone, for instance, is easier to read alongside SHBG (the protein that carries it) and LH (the pituitary signal that drives it), and Numia's Male Hormone Panel measures all three together; testosterone testing routes compares the options.

Why compare markers, not just price?

Because a single test answers a single question, while a panel gives you a baseline across several body systems. In a US national survey, 84% of adults with prediabetes (blood sugar above normal but below diabetes) didn't know they had it, and having had a glucose test in the past three years was the strongest factor linked to knowing (Wang et al., 2025). Numia's Fatigue Panel measures both fasting glucose and HbA1c alongside iron, thyroid, liver and kidney markers.

Where does Numia fit?

The usual route runs in steps: an appointment for a requisition, a lab visit, a wait, then another appointment for results. Numia Health keeps them in one place. A licensed Canadian physician reviews and approves your requisition online in about 3 minutes, and a BC-licensed clinician comes to your home for a 10-minute morning draw. Results arrive in plain English in the Numia app in 7 days, where the Numia Companion, an AI that has read them, answers questions and cites the panel. Out-of-range results are physician-reviewed with recommended next steps, and an optional wellness consultation is available. Numia is an HSA-eligible service. Frequently asked questions

How much is a private blood test at LifeLabs in BC?

It depends on the test; the table above shows the vitamin D and testosterone prices we checked in September 2026. An MD Connected provider signs the requisition, and you still visit a LifeLabs site. Numia's panels are drawn at home instead.

Can I use a health spending account for a private blood test?

Often. The CRA counts laboratory procedures prescribed by a medical practitioner as eligible medical expenses, but plan rules vary, so check with your administrator. Numia is an HSA-eligible service.

Is a panel better value than single tests?

It depends on your question. One test answers one thing; a panel builds a baseline across several body systems from one draw. Numia's Fatigue Panel, for example, measures 22 markers, including TSH, free T4 and free T3.
